When a person has grown up with daily harassment and verbal abuse from peers and family members, how do they pick just one incident or one insult? Do I pick the word my grandfather called me which may have caused me to ignore and suppress thoughts or questions about my own gender identity for so much of my life? Do I pick the word my peers decided to use against me which caused me shame and guilt about aspects of sexuality? Do I pick the terms and phrases which continue cause me to question my own self worth and doubt my ability to accomplish?

A word, slur or comment that was used one day, which might not have been a big issue, can steamroll and become so much better when used en masse.

Reading through many of the comments to this question, I found my self thinking,"If that is the worst you've ever been called, consider yourself fortunate."
