Today there was a once in a life time experience visible along western North America, eastern and central Europe, and north eastern Africa. People in those areas would have been able to step out their homes and witness a selenelion.

A selenelion is when both the Sun and the eclipsed Moon can be observed in the sky at the same time. It can only happen near Moonrise/Sunset or Moonset/Sunrise. While this event occurs with every Lunar eclipse, it can be rare to be a personal witness to one.

This morning, in the cold of a Colorado winter, I stood at a crossroads. I watched an eclipsing Moon set behind the Rocky Mountains while the sun rose behind me. One does not have to be religious to still find personal, psycho-symbolic meaning in the events of our lives. The art is learning how to share these personal meanings without forcing them on others – a problem far too common with religion.

Witnessing an event such as a selenelion can carry a very special meaning for some people. For myself, I see it as a time of letting go the things I no longer need in my life. Releasing the mental and emotional burdens which weigh me down – apprehension, fear, hopelessness – and turning and embracing the things which bring wonder, joy and warmth into my life.

What are the mental and emotional things are holding you back from playing the sort of game or having the sort of lifestyle *you* want to enjoy? Do they continue to have a healthy, constructive purpose in your life? Or is it time to let those things go? Is it instead time to turn and clasp the star of your hopes, dreams, and wishes, bringing to you its warmth and joy into your life?
